At 4 Rue Titon there is a place called AEPP (Association Étudiant Protestant de Paris), located in Paris in the 11 arrondissement. It is much more than just a student residence, it's a shared place that many young people call “Home”. It’s a student accommodation that brings together the lives of around 100 people from different cultures, cities and backgrounds, aged between 18 to 25, through shared space, daily routine and constant interaction.
Here, the quiet sound of footsteps in the corridors is mixed with the lights left on until late at night before an exam, with spontaneous conversations and moments of silence during a solo break. These walls are not just a backdrop for academic journeys but a space where friendships, independence, courage and lasting memories grow while everyone builds their own future. The AEPP is a temporary refuge for young workers and students where the common areas, such as the main hall and the kitchen, allows residents to share moments, meals and time together. Each resident also has their own personal space in cupboards for tableware and a basket in the fridge labelled with their name for storing food. The rooms are quiet, an intimate space that serves as a private retreat, each one reflecting the personality of its occupants. They are small private worlds where residents can simply unwind after a long day or enjoy a moment of solitude away from the common areas, even if the room is shared. This Association has been collecting students since 1892 with the intention of offering them a place for: live, learn and socialise. It emerged from the French Protestant movements of the late 19th century, most probably founded by a network of pastors, intellectuals and activists involved in building an alternative educational model.
Observing the Association des Étudiants Protestants de Paris as part of it, means entering in a world made up of small, often unnoticed, details that reveal the complexity of living in a collective environment.
